1951 Mercury Lead Sled Custom Lowrider

This is a beautiful custom 4 door Mercury with lots of special features, including suicide doors. It has a few flaws, but, hey, don't we all? It's still a beautiful car and a great driver. It has been featured in several magazines, including CRAP (Crazy Ray's Auto Pages) and KOA (Kustoms of America). It has also been used as advertisements for several photographers. This car has never been to a car show on a trailer -- it was driven to all shows, including Lead East in New Jersey (wonderful show, by the way), Myrtle Beach, SC, as well as many other shows. We have won quite a few trophies and awards for best paint, best pinstriping, Top 25, and others.

The top has been chopped 3 inches and drug forward 2.5 inches by C.A.R.S. The rear doors are flush. C.A.R.S. also installed a custom console and trunk panels. The paint is a custom yellow with purple candy flames, hand-painted pinstriping on the front, back, sides and dash. You have to see the pinstriping to really appreciate it. There is a Flying Eyeball on the front, a big tuna on the Continental kit, a spider in the antenna area, spider webs on the fender skirts, and white pinstriping on the dash. There are also flames painted under the hood, which is louvered. The carburetor cover is also painted custom yellow with candy flames.

The door handles are shaved. The headlights are Hagan Frenched headlights. The tail lights are 1954 Mercury lights. The front grille is a Corvette grille with a ribbed aluminum bumper. The rear bumper was rechromed and looks great! All body seams are filled. We added fender skirts, Lake pipes and a Continental kit just to make it more interesting. The antenna is a Frenched teardrop design and is electric.

We installed vintage air conditioning, Dakota Digital dash (purple), delay wipers, electric doors, power windows, air shocks with a pump. We also installed purple neon lighting underneath the car. It has a Sony stereo, which includes a CD player and is iPod ready, with two speakers and an amp in the trunk.

The interior is yellow and white and does needs some work, but overall, it looks good. The front seats are bucket seats, and the back seat is a bench seat. Purple carpet is installed and looks good with the yellow and white. There is also purple carpet in the trunk area with yellow custom flamed panels.

Now, to the stuff you probably want to know the most about -- the motor! It has a 351 Windsor 400 hp motor, with a C4 transmission. The rear end is a 9 inch Ford with a 321 gear. This car gets about 16 miles per gallon on the highway. She sounds great! When we drive down the road, people roll down their windows just to listen to her growl. She sounds like a V-twin motorcycle and really makes you sit up and pay attention. The wiring is Ron Francis wiring.

The tires are Diamondback Classic wide whitewalls (215/75/14) with Caddy hubcaps. The car also has dummy spotlights and Betty Boop door locks. The rear windows do not roll down.
